During the summer of 2020 members of Claremont Colleges Emergency Medical Services club were brainstorming ways to support our communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Satellite Learning Program was developed to connect our college students to students K-12 who were looking to engage in fun learning activities over the summer.
Now, SLP is a free tutoring service organized and provided by a broad range of college students. The mission is to offer a helping hand to students from grades K-12 through a strange and unprecedented academic semester at home. The main focus of SLP tutors is to provide virtual one-on-one help in the subject area of interest such as reading/writing, math, science, and even the college admissions process. In addition to one-on-one tutoring, the program is continuing to develop events and resources that will help foster a community among tutors and students, such as trivia nights, book clubs, and career development events. |
